About Us
Freedom Capital Management was founded in May 2021, but the reason it exists goes back much further than that.
Ed Schweitzer Sr. retired from American Airlines in May of 1987, number one on the seniority list out of roughly 8,000 pilots. When he retired, he received a lump sum instead of a pension. He did what most people in that position would do: he went to a financial professional. Specifically, he went to the money manager that the other pilots at DFW were all using. That advisor told him he would make more money in retirement than he had as a pilot.
Captain Schweitzer was an exceptionally intelligent man; however, finance simply wasn't his arena, and he had no interest in making it become that. He trusted the professional. He passed away in 2015, and in his final years, he was worried about running out of money. The right financial advisor could have changed that.
What That History Built
Ed Schweitzer Jr. flew professionally from 1988 to 2005. When the airline industry's pension losses hit and his own retirement picture shifted, that move into financial services came directly from watching what happens when someone with real financial exposure is given advice that doesn't hold up. He spent years learning from some of the top firms in the industry.
Freedom Capital Management was built around one question: What does it actually take for someone to stop worrying about money? Not temporarily, but in a way that holds.
The answer, in practice, is a financial plan that accounts for the full picture, is stress-tested against real scenarios, and stays current as life changes.
How This Works in Practice
The planning tools and software used here are the same ones applied to Ed's own financial situation. Every strategy and framework offered to clients gets used, evaluated, and refined through direct personal experience with it.
That approach shapes how meetings run, how plans are built, and how the work gets communicated. The goal is that you come away from every conversation with a clearer picture than you had going in, not a more complicated one.
Our Name
For most people approaching retirement, freedom looks less like a luxury and more like the ability to stop carrying the weight of financial uncertainty, to make decisions from a position of clarity rather than anxiety, and to know that what they've spent decades building is actually going to hold. That's what this work is for.
